Exeter shouldnt charge £9K, however it isnt outside the top 10 in ANY league tables. ITs 8,9,9,8 and 10 in all five respectively. Apart from that im in total agreement with the article.

Have you thought of a role for Esperanto in the revolution you envisage? Take a look at www.lernu.net

Esperanto is a relatively young language (125 years old next year) with a relatively young speaker population. One of these young speakers was on Radio Wales the other day:

I suppose it depends how indebted he is to this criminal cabal. Assuming he is uncompromised then the BskyB takeover should be suspended, hopefully permanently, However, don't be surprised if Tory loyalties to their elite buddies transcends even matters of this gravity.

Thanks Ian :)

As for the student journalist, I think they can be forgiven to some extent in that they are allowed to have their own opinions and they have a right to express those opinions. My only gripe is the outlet in which that opinion is expressed - for example you wouldn't get an columnist writing liberal-minded opinion pieces in the Mail, even if the journalist themselves had liberal values. As I always say, journalism isn't about the journalist, it's about the reader; therefore City Offline has a duty to remain partisan in things like this, as the paper exists to represent the students - which includes the Islamic Society.

Upon further discussions with the individual, it has emerged that they were speaking in gut reaction to the Mail piece, and know that they've calmed down, they see the bigger picture. As such, City Offline will be coming out with a piece on the iSoc that hopefully shows both sides of the picture.

I'm all for freedom of speech and people being able to voice their opinions but it's slightly worrying when a member of the editorial team for a paper brandishing the university's name feels that "the “iSoc” have been getting their way for too long and that the University should shut them down immediately".

As a journalist isn't it their responsibility to at least provide an accurate account with some real research? especially on such a sensitive matter, otherwise it is no better than the nonsense found in most tabloids or gossip columns.

Then they may actually know that the iSoc had only gained notoriety for all the wrong reasons over the last year (as you have highlighted). So it would be interesting to hear how "the iSoc have been getting their own way for too long" or even how long too long is. As far as I'm aware have never been any real problems with the iSoc before.

"the University should shut them down immediately". As you highlighted the Quilliam report was on the former president. So does the editor in question feel that the vast majority of iSoc members be made to suffer due to the actions of a few (with the main culprits no longer being at the university).

Again, slightly unnerving that the editor in question feels that "it will be a mere matter of weeks before the iSoc are up to their old tricks again". What is their basis / evidence for this assumption? If they have none, then it is pure ignorance.

If the editor in question does decide to go ahead with their article, I just hope they actually do some research on the subject rather than paint the current iSoc with the same brush as last years president. Or even better actually ask for contributions from different sources for a balanced argument, then it might not seem like they are using the paper as some sort of journalistic vehicle for their own beef.

Finally I'd just like to say, there is no place for extremism, not in today's society, not ever. I don't really want this to seem like I have beef with the editor in question but anything branding the university's name will instantly come into disrepute if subject matters like these are not handled properly and if there any inaccuracies in their reports.

Oh yeah, great article by the way j.r!

"Staff take part in the Islamic prayer sessions alongside the students, and I would think it a lecturer’s duty, as a “responsible” figure in the University, to alert the appropriate people if questionable content is being delivered in religious speeches."

Sorry, just a slight addition to that.
Students should also act responsibly, and correct their 'brothers' :)
